On February 21st, 2026, at 301 Division Ave, Ormond Beach, FL, our beautiful Mia—our brave “medical unicorn”—gained her wings after a courageous battle with Heterotaxy Syndrome. Mia’s strength, light, and magical spirit inspired everyone who knew her, and now we run in her honor.
Heterotaxy Syndrome is a rare and complex condition that affects the arrangement of the body’s organs and is often associated with serious heart defects. It occurs in roughly 1 in 10,000 births, yet many have never heard of it. The journey for families affected by Heterotaxy is filled with medical challenges, uncertainty, and the need for greater awareness and research.
Unicorns Among Us 5K is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of Mia’s life and a step toward hope for other children and families walking a similar path. Proceeds from this event will be donated to The Heterotaxy Connection, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families, raising awareness, and funding research to improve outcomes for those with Heterotaxy Syndrome.
Whether you run, walk, or simply show up to cheer, your participation honors Mia’s legacy and helps bring light, love, and support to those in need. Let’s lace up, spread awareness, and run for the unicorns among us.
The race will start and end at Ormond Brewing Company, so after you cross the finish line, stick around to celebrate! Grab a cold drink, hang out with fellow runners, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Together, we'll raise a glass to those who have lost their battle and those who are still fighting with Heterotaxy.
