Start 2026 on the right foot with the Peninsula Track Club and York High School Cross Country &: Track &: Field at the New Year’s Day 5K!

🌳 Event Overview

• Course: Fast, nearly flat course through the scenic trails of Newport News Park — one of the largest municipal parks in the country.
• Participants: Open to runners, walkers, and strollers.
• Judging: Course judges will be on-site to verify the walker division.
• Benefit: All proceeds benefit York High School Cross Country and Track &: Field.

Date: Thursday, January 1, 2026
Location: Newport News Park – Picnic Shelters 19 &: 20 (across from the Ranger Station)

⏰ Schedule

• 9:00–9:50 AM: Bib pick-up &: Race Day Registration
• 10:00 AM: Race Start (on Constitution Way in front of the Ranger Station, heading toward Jefferson Ave.)
• ~11:00 AM: Awards Ceremony

🏆 Awards

• Overall Awards: Top 3 Male &: Female finishers
• Age Group Awards: Top 3 Male &: Female in each group (19 &: Under, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, 70–79, and 80+)
• Walker Division: Top 3 Male &: Female Walkers

👕 T-Shirt Information

Register by December 3 to guarantee your race shirt. After this date, shirts will be limited and not guaranteed.

📝 Registration

• Online Registration Closes: Noon on December 30, 2025
• Race Day Registration: Opens at 9:00 AM at the bib pick-up area
• Cost: $50 (cash) or $50 via RunSignUp. See: Thomas Tate for race-day sign-up assistance

2026 is the LAST YEAR THIS WILL BE IN NEWPORT NEWS PARK. The City of Newport News &: the Newport News Park &: Recreation have informed us that this will be the last year we can hold this event in the park. They are moving away from allowing running and walking events in the park, citing the impact on park resources. Don't worry, we will find a new location for NYD 2027!
