Race Overview
Southern Colorado Runners welcomes you to the revived Chile & Frijole Hot to Trot Race Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 8AM. The Chile & Frijole Hot to Trot Race will be held on the last day of the Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival. The festival features live entertainment, street vendors, cooking competitions, and chilies, chilies, chilies! Held downtown along Union Avenue, the festival attracts Pueblo residents as well as people from across the state and around the nation.
Race Options
- Distance Options: 5K & 10K
- Course: Both races incorporate the beautiful Arkansas River Trail.
- Start/Finish: Walter’s Brewing Company, 126 Oneida.
- Route: Runners will enjoy scenic views along the Arkansas River and the Riverwalk.
Registration & Pricing
- Discount: Soco and PPRR club members receive a $5 discount.
- 5K Registration: $35 (early entry through September 5th): $45 (beginning September 6th)
- 10K Registration: $40 (early entry through September 5th): $50 (beginning September 6th)
- Guaranteed Perks: Race shirt with Chile & Frijole Hot to Trot logo and free entry into the Chile & Frijole Festival for all who register by September 5, 2026.
Awards
- Overall Winners: Recognized for their impressive achievement.
- Age Group Medals: Awarded for first 3 places in 10-year increments.
- Finisher Medals: For the first 350 registered participants to cross the finish line.
Course Description
5K & 10K Course Overview: Both courses are primarily flat and fast, with the Main Street Bridge serving as the main climb. After cresting the bridge, runners descend toward Pueblo’s scenic Arkansas River Trail.
5K Course Details
- Start: Begin at Walter’s Brewing Company.
- Main Street Bridge: Run up and over the bridge.
- Arkansas River Trail: Drop down onto the trail.
- Lake Runyon: Turn toward Lake Runyon, following the west side of the lake.
10K Course Details
- Start: Begin at Walter’s Brewing Company.
- Main Street Bridge: Run up and over the bridge.
- Arkansas River Trail: Head west for approximately 1.5 miles, then turn around.
- Lake Runyon Loop: Complete a full loop around the lake and return.
Course Amenities
- Water Stations: Provided along each course and one at the finish line.
- Course Rules: No pets allowed. Strollers are okay but may be crowded: start at the back for safety.
- Passing Etiquette: Pass carefully and avoid running side by side on narrow pathways.
Race & Packet Pickup Info
- Race Day: Sunday, September 20th at 8 AM at Walter’s Brewing Company, 126 Oneida.
- Packet Pickup: Saturday, September 19th from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Renewed Wholesale, 720 S. Main Street.
- Race Morning Pickup: Sunday from 6:30 AM – 7:30 AM at Walter’s Brewing Company.
- Parking: Limited due to the festival: plan accordingly.
Parking Information
Please be advised that parking will be limited this weekend due to the Chile & Frijole Festival. The Main Street Parking Garage 110 S Main Street is located near the start and end of the race, but we recommend that you plan accordingly to ensure you have enough time to find a spot.
