About this race
Event Overview
- Host: The Elkhart Education Foundation is excited to host the annual Ugly Sweater 5K Run/Walk and 1.5 Mile Sweater Stroll.
- Who Can Participate: This is a fun-filled event for every person: the serious runner, the recreational jogger, walkers, and our furry friends!
- Ugliest Sweater Contest: Wear your tackiest sweater and you may win the Ugliest Sweater Contest!
- Event Date: Join us on December 5, 2026.
Race Details
- Race Timing: The 5K Run and Walk is timed, while the 1.5 mile walk is not timed.
- Entry Fee Includes: Race experience, choice of hat, Jumbotron, finisher medals for all, costume awards, gym access to stay warm, course support, and post-race hot cocoa and treats!
- Photo Opportunity: Prior to the race, take some fun pics at the photo booth to capture your outfit!
- Finish Line Treats: Enjoy hot chocolate from a student-led food truck for $3, granola bars, and water at the finish line!
New Location and Route
- New Venue: The race has moved to North Side Middle School, 300 East Lawrence, Elkhart, corner of Main Street and Bristol.
- Indoor Facilities: Plenty of room indoors for participants before and after the race in the spacious gym!
- Scenic Course: The course will feature much of the beloved area from last year through charming small parks.
- Weather Preparedness: December weather can be unpredictable: the larger venue ensures warmth regardless of the conditions!
2026 Updates
- New 1.5 Mile Course: The updated course for the 1.5 Mile now includes Wellfield Gardens.
- Dog Policy: Dogs are not allowed in Wellfield Gardens: however, they are welcome on the 5K course if they are trained for that distance.
Packet Pickup
- Friday, December 4: Check-in and packet pickup from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Elkhart Health & Aquatics, 200 East Jackson, Elkhart.
- Saturday, December 5: Packet pickup at North Side Middle School gym from 7:00 am - 8:15 am.
Awards
- Finisher Medals: Everyone will receive a finisher medal!
- Costume Awards: Participate in the fun by wearing your silliest or funniest sweater! Categories include Best Male, Best Female, Best Teen, Best Youth, and Best Group.
Parking Information
- Free Parking: Ample free parking is available at North Side Middle School, 300 East Lawrence, Elkhart.
- Parking Directions: Follow instructions from our parking attendants: entrance and exit will be on the Bristol Street side.

- Support Options: We are in need of volunteers! If you're not into running but want to help, there are many options available.
- Participate and Help: You can volunteer and still enjoy the event by reaching out to our team to express your interest!
