About this race
Course Description
- Race Options: The Skyline Scramble offers a 3-hour, 6-hour, 12-hour, 12-hour Team Relay, and 2-mile Kids Race!
- Scenic Views: Runners will enjoy beautiful views of Topeka as they navigate the wooded south summit of Skyline Park.
- Track Details: The rugged 2.15-mile single-loop track features rocks, roots, and boardwalks with about 250 feet of elevation gain.
- Historical Significance: The route includes the highest point on Burnett’s Mound, the site of the 1966 tornado.
3-Hour, 6-Hour, and 12-Hour Race Format
- Loop Structure: Participants run the same 2.15-mile loop repeatedly.
- Time Limitation: Runners must complete the loop fully as many times as they can within their chosen time frame (3, 6, or 12 hours).
- Winner Determination: The winner is the participant who completes the most loops within their fixed time window.
12-Hour Team Relay
- Team Composition: Teams consist of three runners (male, female, or coed) who share one race bib.
- Team Requirement: All three team members must complete at least one loop, or the team will be disqualified.
- Management Tools: Teams can manage their information through a link sent via email after registration.

2-Mile Kids Race
- Eligibility: Designed for kids K-8th grade, who will compete in elementary and middle school divisions.
- Race Details: Kids will complete one full 2.15-mile loop through the wooded trails starting at 11:30am.
- Awards: Top placements in each division will receive special awards, and all participants will get a unique finisher award.
- Registration: Parents/guardians need to register their child online and complete a waiver in person at packet pickup.
Registration, Packet Pickup, Check-in, and Parking
- Registration Deadline: Online registration closes on March 4, 2027.
- Packet Pickup: Early packet pickup is on March 5 from 4 to 6:30pm at Fleet Feet, 2130 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS.
- Race Day Pickup: Begins on March 6 at 5:45am at Skyline Park.
- Parking Information: Runners will park in designated areas at the access road, with specific arrangements for the 12-hour participants.
Rules
- Timing: Chip timing may or may not be provided: all runners must notify race staff when entering the timer tent.
- Course Restrictions: No non-competitors allowed on the course, including family, friends, and pets.
- Loop Completion: The last loop must be finished by the designated end time to be counted.
- Age Requirement: Minimum age of 14 years for participation in adult events: parental consent is required for minors.
Drop Bags
- Designated Area: There will be a designated area at the start/finish for personal aid and canopies.
- Canopy Setup: Notify race officials if you plan to set up a canopy.
Awards
- Finisher Awards: All runners receive a finisher award and a race t-shirt.
- Top Finishers: First, second, and third place in each adult event will receive custom awards.
- Relay Awards: The top 12-hour Relay Team members will receive 1st place awards.
Crew
- Assistance Area: Crew members may only assist at the start/finish aid station: no outside assistance on the course.
- Disqualification Policy: Any assistance outside the designated area will result in disqualification.
Animals
- Pet Policy: Pets must be on a leash or left at home: participants are fully responsible for their pets.
Race Cancellation
- Cancellation Notification: Email rockingchairrunning@gmail.com at least three days before the race to withdraw.
- No Refunds: No refunds will be issued if the race is canceled due to severe weather or uncontrollable circumstances.
- Rescheduling Attempts: Organizers will attempt to reschedule if the event is canceled.
