Run Details
Race Judicata is an annual 5k run/walk organized by the Young Lawyers Section (YLS) of the Anchorage Bar Association with proceeds benefitting the Anchorage Youth Court.
- Course Start: Margaret Eagan Sullivan Park (Westchester Lagoon)
- Course Direction: Northward up the coast trail
- Included in Entry: A t-shirt with a custom logo designed by Emory B. of Salt Chuck Art
- Family Friendly: Kids under 10 are free, but donations are encouraged
Community Impact
A bit about the Anchorage Youth Court: Anchorage Youth Court (AYC) is a diversionary program for youth in grades 7 through 12 who are accused of breaking the law to be judged by their peers.
- Roles: Local youth take on the roles of attorneys, judges, bailiffs, clerks, and jurors during the trials.
- Legal Education: Members develop and apply an understanding of the law through legal education and participation in court hearings.
- Benefits: Defendants resolve their legal problems without a formal juvenile record.
- Community Service: The community receives valuable work service as redress for wrongs committed.
