Event Overview
- Annual Event: An annual 5K run/walk and kids 1 mile race on the streets of Chelsea, NY located in the town of Wappingers (NOT the Chelsea in NYC).
- Beneficiary: Benefits the Chelsea Fire Company and The Robert VanTassel “Live the Dash” scholarship.
- Scholarship Criteria: Awarded to 2 Beacon High School Seniors, who show sportsmanship, integrity, and 100% commitment to his/her running goals.
- History: The race was renamed in 2023 to honor Bobby, the long-time race coordinator who passed away on October 20, 2022.
About Bobby Van Tassel
- Passion for Running: Running was his passion, and he ran the race every year.
- Role in the Community: Bobby served as Fire District Commissioner and past chief, holding every office over 40 years with CFD.
- Legacy: He handed out medals at the end of each race and inspired many through his commitment.
- Running Spirit: Bobby's spirit lives on as we continue this race in his honor with the motto “LIVE THE DASH”!

- Course: The route takes you along the scenic Hudson River.
