If there were ever a person who symbolized light, Sims Vickers was it. He was so kind, caring, outgoing, and fun. Sims life ended much too soon on March 27, 2022. After raising over $10,000 for the Bradley Center last September, we’re ready to run the Let It Shine 5K back. This event is our attempt to continue spreading Sims' light with a world that needs it.
For this second installment of the race, we’re highlighting Sims’ respect for and desire to serve in our nation’s armed forces. Current members of the military receive care through the government. Veterans who are no longer serving rely on the U.S. Veterans Administration and other public programs or caregivers outside of those benefits. One such program in our community is the Pastoral institute. They provide incredible mental health services to the public at large, and are an invaluable resource for veterans, providing preventative care and urgent response for those experiencing mental health crises.
We will run or walk this race however we can in remembrance of such a special guy. We hope you will join with us in letting our light shine into the darkness that many young people experience with love for and in memory of Sims.
Funds raised by this 5K will be donated to the Pastoral Institute to help with the mental health of many locals and the soldiers in the area.
Join us on November 1, 2025, at Kinnett Stadium, Columbus, GA for the Sims Vickers Memorial Let It Shine 5K. For more information, visit the race page.
