Hoover Dam Marathon 2025

🏃‍♂️ Event Overview

This race is historic and scenic. Taking place at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, which is approximately 18 miles from Las Vegas and boasts amazing views of the largest man-made lake in the US. During the race, you'll run on the Historic Railroad Trail, part of the Rail-to-Trails Conservancy and National Park.

🌄 Course Details

• Starting Point: Boulder Beach, Special Events Beach at the BBQ area.
• Initial Path: The first 1/4 mile is a steady gradual uphill along a wide roadway, allowing runners to find their position.
• Trail Conditions: Impeccably paved, 12' wide, running parallel to Lakeshore Drive.
• Historical Significance: Traverse hard-packed dirt trails through old railroad tunnels from the 1930s used for Hoover Dam construction.

🏞️ Scenic Highlights

• Stunning Views: Overlooking the crystal blue waters of Lake Mead and the marina while passing through tunnels.
• Hoover Dam Area: Experience the "Money Shot" with zigzagging switchbacks leading to the upper-level parking garage at Hoover Dam.
• Great Perspective: Counterclockwise loop along the edge for awe-inspiring views of the Hoover Dam and Bypass Bridge.
• Trail Return: Retrace steps back through the tunnels and paved trails before heading back to Boulder Beach.

🏅 Race Structure

• Loops: Marathoners complete 2 loops of the course (by popular demand).
• Finish Line: Located back at Boulder Beach at the covered BBQ area with awards and food.
• Course Certification: The marathon and half marathon courses have been officially remeasured and certified for accuracy.
• Trail Explanation: This course does not go over the Dam.

👟 Footwear Recommendations

• Trail Composition: Packed-dirt trail accounts for roughly 14 miles of the full marathon: 7 miles of the half marathon.
• Paved Sections: The remainder of the course is paved asphalt.
• Shoe Type: A sturdy road running shoe is recommended: trail shoes are not necessary.
