About Mikey Goodwin
Come celebrate the life of Mikey Goodwin — a vibrant 19-year-old student athlete who fought DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), a devastating and incurable brain cancer, with extraordinary courage. Though Mikey lost his battle just three months after diagnosis, his spirit lives on in everything we do.
Event Details
- Date: November 24, 2026
- Location: The Mikey Goodwin Playground @ James H. Nance Park, Indialantic, FL
- Purpose: Raise funds to advance research and support families fighting DIPG
- Kids' Event: Also featuring Mikey's Turkey Dash, a short kids' run for ages 12 and under!
What is DIPG?
DIPG is one of the deadliest forms of pediatric brain cancer. The tumor grows in the pons — the part of the brainstem that controls breathing, balance, sleep, and bladder function — robbing children of the ability to walk, talk, see, and hear, while leaving them fully aware. Despite advances in treating other cancers, there is still no cure and minimal progress in treating DIPG. It continues to claim young lives, including children right here in Brevard County.
Funding and Research
Shockingly, only 4% of federal funding is directed toward childhood cancer. Foundations like ours are critical to driving progress.
How Your Participation Helps
Since our founding, the Mikey Strong Foundation has:
- Established: The Mikey Goodwin Research Fund at UF Shands, supporting DIPG patients and families with travel assistance, cutting-edge research funding, and direct family aid — with all proceeds matched 100% by corporate donors.
- Donated: Thousands to Candlelighters of Brevard, providing emotional and financial support to cancer-affected families in Brevard and Indian River counties.
- Provided: Direct donations to families battling DIPG.
