We invite you to be a part of our 2nd Annual Jerome Kirkland Sr. Cancer Awareness 5K Walk/Run & 1 Mile Walk/Fun, aka (“Captain’s 5K”), scheduled November 8th, 2025, at McCurry Park located in Fayette County. The Captain’s 5K celebrates our commitment to community service, health and wellness awareness.
This USATF-Certified 5K Course begins and ends in McCurry Park. It is scenic, very fast, and a PEACHTREE ROAD RACE QUALIFIER!
The 1 Mile Course is completely within McCurry Park and goes out-and-back along the paved walking/running path before finishing on a slightly-downhill path.
Both the Start and Finish Line(s) are located in the parking lot of McCurry Park located at 180 McDonough Rd., Fayetteville, GA 30214. There is plenty of parking available in the main lot, less than 100m from both the start and finish.
Early race packet pickup will be held on Saturday, November 1st, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at 125 Shepperton Way, Fayetteville, GA, located at the Trilith Shipyard.

Jerome J Kirkland Sr, affectionately nicknamed "Capt Kirk" by his brothers of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., was born in Camden NJ (May 7, 1944) and a long-time resident of Newnan GA. He was a Vietnam War combat veteran, City Councilman, Educator, Coach, Parish Council Chairman, and Elder and Leader of Thrive Ministry.
Jerome was the Founding Father of the Theta Lambda Lambda (TLL) Chapter that contributes significantly to scholarship funds, community health initiatives, and various service programs. His legacy endures through the 5K run named in his honor, promoting education and health awareness.
