Event Overview

We invite you to be a part of our 2nd Annual Jerome Kirkland Sr. Cancer Awareness 5K Walk/Run &: 1 Mile Walk/Fun, aka (“Captain’s 5K”), scheduled November 8th, 2025, at McCurry Park located in Fayette County. The Captain’s 5K celebrates our commitment to community service, health and wellness awareness.

The Thomas “TJ” Jefferson Foundation, Inc. (TJF), is a twenty-year-old non-profit organization comprised of members of the Theta Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

TJF is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation established in September 2003 to raise funds for scholarships for deserving high school seniors and undergraduate students who demonstrated high academic excellence in the communities of Coweta County and Fayette County.

Registration Information

5K Run/Walk Registration:

• Early Bird: $25 (Through Sept. 15, 11:59pm)
• Pre-Race: $35 (Sept. 16 through Nov. 5, 11:59pm)
• Day of Race: $45
• Note: Pre-Race Registration runs until 11:59 PM, Wednesday evening, November 5th, however, you must register by Saturday, Oct. 18th, 11:59pm, to guarantee your T-shirt size and lock in at the reduced rate!

1 Mile Run/Walk Registration:

• Early Bird: $20 (Through Sept. 15, 11:59pm)
• Pre-Race: $25 (Sept. 16 through Nov. 5, 11:59pm)
• Day of Race: $35
• Note: Pre-Race Registration runs until 11:59 PM, Wednesday evening, November 5th, however, you must register by Saturday, Oct. 18th, 11:59pm, to guarantee your T-shirt size and lock in at the reduced rate!

'Virtual 5K' Registration:

• Pre-Race: $35
• Note: Virtual participants DO receive a T-Shirt, so be sure to include an email so that we may contact you for a mailing address.

Race Routes

5K Race Route:

This USATF-Certified 5K Course begins and ends in McCurry Park. It is scenic, very fast, and a PEACHTREE ROAD RACE QUALIFIER! The course travels along some newly paved perimeter roads before entering the park again and winding through the paved walking/running path before finishing on a slightly-downhill path.

1 Mile Race Route:

The 1 Mile Course is completely within McCurry Park and goes out-and-back along the paved walking/running path before finishing on a slightly-downhill path.

Race Day Logistics

Race Start-Finish &: Race Day Parking:

Both the Start and Finish Line(s) are located in the parking lot of McCurry Park located at 180 McDonough Rd., Fayetteville, GA 30214. There is plenty of parking available in the main lot, less than 100m from BOTH the start and finish.

Race Day Schedule of Events:

• 7:30 AM: Race Day Registration Opens
• 8:45 AM: Race Day Registration Closes
• 8:55 AM: Pre-Race Announcements
• 9:00 AM: 5K Race Start Time
• 9:45 AM: 1M Race Start Time
• 10:15 AM: Race Awards Presentation

Pre-Race Packet Pick-up:

Early race packet pickup will be held on Saturday, November 1st, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at 125 Shepperton Way, Fayetteville, GA, located at the Trilith Shipyard.

5K Awards:

Awards will be given to the following:

• Top 3 Overall Male and Top 3 Overall Female Winners
• Top Masters Male and Top Masters Female Winners
• Top 3 Male &: Female in the following Age Categories: 10-Under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 &: Over

1 Mile Awards:

Awards will be given to the following:

• Top 3 Overall Boys (10&:U) and Top 3 Overall Girls (10&:U)

Results

• The race will be professionally-timed by Wire2Wire Running, LLC Wire2WireRunning.com
• W2W uses R.F.I.D. technology and MyLaps equipment... the same used in the Peachtree R.R., the Boston Marathon, the Tour de France, and the London Marathon.
