Event Overview
We invite you to be a part of our 3rd Annual Jerome Kirkland Sr. Cancer Awareness 5K Walk/Run & 1 Mile Walk/Fun, aka “Captain’s 5K”, scheduled November 14th, 2026, at McCurry Park located in Fayette County. The Captain’s 5K celebrates our commitment to community service, health and wellness awareness.
The Thomas “TJ” Jefferson Foundation, Inc. (TJF), is a twenty-year-old non-profit organization comprised of members of the Theta Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
TJF is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation established in September 2003 to raise funds for scholarships for deserving high school seniors and undergraduate students who demonstrated high academic excellence in the communities of Coweta County and Fayette County.
Registration Information
5K Run/Walk Registration:
- Early Bird Fee: $25 (Through Sept. 21, 11:59pm)
- Pre-Race Fee: $35 (Sept. 22 through Nov. 11, 11:59pm)
- Day of Race Fee: $45
- Note: Pre-Race Registration runs until 11:59 PM, November 4th. Must register by Oct. 24th to guarantee T-shirt size.
1 Mile Run/Walk Registration:
- Early Bird Fee: $20 (Through Sept. 21, 11:59pm)
- Pre-Race Fee: $25 (Sept. 22 through Nov. 11, 11:59pm)
- Day of Race Fee: $35
- Note: Pre-Race Registration runs until 11:59 PM, November 11th. Must register by Oct. 24th to guarantee T-shirt size.
Virtual 5K Registration:
- Pre-Race Fee: $35
- Note: Virtual participants receive a t-Shirt: include email for mailing address.
Race Routes
5K Race Route:
This USATF-Certified 5K Course begins and ends in McCurry Park. It is scenic, very fast, and a PEACHTREE ROAD RACE QUALIFIER! The course travels along some newly paved perimeter roads before entering the park again and winding through the paved walking/running path before finishing on a slightly-downhill path.
1 Mile Race Route:
The 1 Mile Course is completely within McCurry Park and goes out-and-back along the paved walking/running path before finishing on a slightly-downhill path.
Race Day Details
Race Start-Finish & Race Day Parking:
Both the Start and Finish Line(s) are located in the parking lot of McCurry Park located at 180 McDonough Rd., Fayetteville, GA 30214. There is plenty of parking available in the main lot, less than 100m. from BOTH the start and finish.
Race Day Schedule of Events:
- 7:30 AM: Race Day Registration Opens
- 8:45 AM: Race Day Registration Closes
- 8:55 AM: Pre-Race Announcements
- 9:00 AM: 5K Race Start Time
- 9:45 AM: 1M Race Start Time
- 10:15 AM: Race Awards Presentation
Pre-Race Packet Pick-up:
Early race packet pickup location TBA. Save time waiting in line on race morning and pick up your packet early.

5K Awards:
Awards will be given to the following:
- *Top 3 Overall Male and Top 3 Overall Female Winners
- *Top Masters Male and Top Masters Female Winners
- *Top 3 Male & Female in multiple Age Categories: 10-Under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & Over
1 Mile Awards:
Awards will be given to the following:
- *Top 3 Overall Boys (10 & U) and Top 3 Overall Girls (10 & U)
Results:
- The race will be professionally-timed by Wire2Wire Running, LLC Wire2WireRunning.com
- W2W uses R.F.I.D. technology and MyLaps equipment, the same used in prestigious events.

About Jerome Kirkland Sr.
Jerome J Kirkland Sr, affectionately nicknamed "Capt Kirk" by his brothers of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., was born in Camden NJ (May 7, 1944) and a long-time resident of Newnan GA. He was a Vietnam War combat veteran (SSgt, USA): City Councilman and Board of Education member (Plainfield NJ): Educator/Coach (Dekalb County Schools GA): Parish Council Chairman (Newnan Chapel UMC, Newnan GA) and Elder and Leader of Thrive Ministry (GO Church, Sharpsburg GA).
