🏃‍♀️ Event Overview

The Abuelita Hot Chocolate 5K Run/Walk at Riis Park is about more than crossing the finish line. It’s about showing up for our families and neighbors, honoring those who can’t be here, and helping our small businesses recover from the challenges they continue to face. After covering permits and event logistics, EVERY dollar raised will be reinvested directly back into the small business chamber members, and small businesses of Hermosa and Belmont Cragin. These are the immigrant-owned and family-owned shops and restaurants that give our community its identity. By running, walking, or cheering, you are helping us keep dollars circulating where they matter most, right here at home.

🕒 Race Day Schedule

• Bib & Merch Pickup: 7:30 AM (day-of pickup available at Riis Park)
• Race Start: 9:00 AM
• Bibs: All participants will receive timed race bibs to track their results.

🎟️ Registration Information

Registration is $59.99 per participant. Every registration includes a race bib, pre-race fruit and water, a finisher’s medal, a tamal, a cup of Abuelita Hot Chocolate, and an official 5k hoodie. After crossing the finish line, participants are treated to Abuelita hot chocolate prepared by local small businesses and a freshly made tamal from a neighborhood vendor. The celebration also features a lively Abuelita costume contest, community resource tables, and raffle giveaways.

🏞️ Course Details

The 5K course takes you through scenic Riis Park, with live entertainment from local artists to cheer you on at every mile. At the finish line, you’ll be greeted by the sounds of a mariachi band. The celebration continues with a DJ-led after-race party and plenty of opportunities for family and friends to cheer from designated spots along the course.

This is a family-friendly event open to both runners and walkers, and strollers are welcome.
