The event honors one of the club's founders, Paul Thurston.
What better way to start your summer with a 5K in the nation's capital. This 5K will go out and back on pavement in the picturesque Rock Creek Park. In honor of Memorial Day, we encourage you to come out in red, white, and blue.
Family members can form teams of two in honor of Paul and Bob Thurston, who held the record for the fastest father-son marathon times. Bob is the world's foremost measurer of race courses. He measured this course, the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler, the Marine Corps Marathon, the Army Ten Miler, and many of the races put on by the DC Road Runners Club. He has traveled the world to measure. Runners have set world records in the 10K and ten miles on his courses. If you have run a race in the Washington, D.C. area, chances are he measured it.
Bob is a member of the Halls of Fame of the DC Road Runners Club, and the Road Runners Club of America, and has the highest rating for course measurers from World Athletics, the international governing body. He recently measured the Ireland's Four Court's Four Miler, which was named the best race in Arlington.
The top three overall winners, age-group winners, and first team will receive awards.
Registration is free for members and $10 for nonmembers. Members will see their $10 discount at checkout.
Registration ends at 8:00 p.m. the night before the race.
This event is part of the DCRRC's Bunion Derby Series; for more information/rules, visit the race series rules page.
