Percival's Island Firecracker 5 Mile Race

Event Overview

Celebrate Independence Day with a 5 mile race! Lynchburg is known as the "Hill City"....but this course is flat, flat, flat.

• Start/Finish Location: Blackwater Creek Natural Area Percival's Island in downtown Lynchburg
• Course: Paved rails to trails path along the James River
• Distance: 5 miles, considered by many the perfect distance
• Event Series: This is the 9th race in the Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series.

Registration Details

• Cost: $30 (thru - June 30, 2026): $35 (July 1 - July 4, 2026)
• Age Limit: This event is limited to those age 9 and older.
• Registration Type: Paper registration is not available for this event.
• Fees: Non-transferable & non-refundable. Entries cannot be deferred.

Packet Pickup

• Date & Time: Friday (7/3) 12-6pm at Riverside Runners (2480 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24503 – 434-846-7449)
• Race Day Pickup: Saturday (7/4) 7-7:30am at Percival's Island Natural Area (1200 Concord Trnpk, Lynchburg, VA 24504)
• T-Shirt: There is no post race t-shirt pickup.
• Discount: $5.00 discount for current Lynchburg Road Runners Club members. Must be registered before June 18th.

Assisted Participants

We are pleased to provide an opportunity for assisted participants to enjoy race day. An assisted participant is typically being pushed in a stroller "appropriate" for the event (i.e., hand brake, tether, appropriate wheels).

• Registration: Both the participant being pushed and the pusher are required to register for this event.
• Start Time: Assisted participants will start prior to the main event.
• Ranking: They will be ranked separately from the event.
• Classification: Please indicate this classification during registration.

Awards

• Categories: Top 3 Overall M/F, Top Overall Masters M/F, Top 3 M/F in each age group.
• Ranking Method: All awards will be ranked on "chip" time.
• Timing: This is a chip-timed event, utilizing Disposable MyLaps Race Bib Technology.
• Age Groups: 12 & under, 13-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-74, 75 & Up (ranked by chip time).

Award Pickup

Awards will be available for pickup at Riverside Runners Tuesday July 7, 2026 12-6pm. Awards will not be mailed.

Course Information

Start / Finish at Percival’s Island Nature Trail, 1600 Concord Turnpike (Downtown Lynchburg). The course is flat, paved, shaded, and is an out & back route.
