Arkema 5K Race & One Mile Fun Run

Event Overview

The Arkema 5K Race & One Mile Fun Run is an annual fundraising run supporting the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, the Chatham Rescue Squad, and various qualified local charities, schools, and school organizations serving Chatham and Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

Race Details

• Course Features: The primary 5K course features challenging elevation changes with no switchbacks.
• Fun Run: The One Mile Fun run is a great introductory, family friendly course featuring moderate elevations and no switchbacks.
• Escort: One escort can accompany any One Mile Fun child for free!

Registration

• How to Register: Participants are encouraged to register through the website, but there is a manual registration form available.
• Race Day Registration: Participants can register the morning of the race.
• T-Shirts: T-Shirts are not guaranteed if registration is on race day.

Record Breakers

• Cash Bounty: The 5K course maintains a $250 cash bounty for breaking a course record.
• Course Records: Dale Ball holds the men's course record with a 15:55 set on October 13, 2001. Allison Peters holds the women's course record with an 18:52 established on October 12, 2013.
• Target: Both records are over a decade old. They need to be shattered.

Awards and Prizes

• Awards: The 5K course has awards for walkers, runners, and teams (men's, women's, mixed).
• Age Group Awards: The Arkema 5K run includes top three awards for male and female runners in various age groups.
• Team Awards: First place team awards are provided for men, women, and mixed teams.
• Fun Run Awards: The one mile fun run has awards for the top three boys and girls aged 12 & Under.

One Mile Fun Run

• Open to All: The One Mile Fun Run is open to anyone, designed for kids and families.
• Parent Escort: A single parent is welcomed to escort a young runner for FREE.
• Finisher Ribbons: Ribbons are provided for all finishers for girls and boys 12 & Under.
• Fastest Awards: Medals are provided for the top three fastest boys and girls aged 12 & Under.

Charity Nominations

• Nomination Process: Both the online and paper registration forms feature a selection, "Please nominate one local community organization, non-profit, or school to fund."
• Funding Direction: All participants have a voice and can direct funds to a favorite local organization serving Chatham or Pittsylvania County.
• Funding Dispersion: The Race Committee will tabulate the nominations according to our funding dispersion guidelines.
• More Nominations: The more nominations an organization gets, the more funding will be available to it!
