Race History

• Introduction: Introduced to trail running in 2014 by Jason Claunch
• Inspiration: Concept for a free trail race was formed during discussions with Jason
• First Event: The first Broken Boulder was hosted in 2018
• Objective: To introduce more runners to trail running at Ferne Clyffe State Park

Course Features

• Scenic Route: Highlights of beautiful Ferne Clyffe State Park
• Terrain: Combination of technical single track and wide fire roads
• Elevation: 1400’ of climbing over the 11 mile course
• Unique Aspects: Includes high lookout points, creek crossings, and a natural land bridge

Important Race Details

• Initial and Final Stretch: The first and last 1/2 mile will be on the road
• Trail Caution: Be alert, as there are dangerous areas within the park
• Cup-less Race: Participants must bring personal hydration devices
• Aid Stations: Three aid stations located at mile 2.75, 4.75, and around mile 6
