IDEA Public Schools 5K & Healthy Living Expo

IDEA Public School's Healthy Kids Here program recognizes that the roots of academic success for our students run far deeper than classroom learning alone. IDEA started Healthy Kids Here seven years ago with the goal of becoming the healthiest district in the country. As part of our mission to become the Healthiest District in America, IDEA Public Schools hosts the 5th Annual Healthy Kids Here 5K Run | 1K Walk & Healthy Living Expo to engage the El Paso community in a family-friendly and educational opportunity which encourages families to be active.

Executive Statement

Frankie Gray, executive director for IDEA El Paso Public Schools says, “IDEA believes that in order for students to get to and through college and beyond, they also need a foundation of knowledge and skills necessary to maintain their health. As always, we don't do what's easiest for adults: we do what's best for kids."

Event Proceeds

Proceeds from the Healthy Kids Here 5K Run will support programming efforts for scholars at IDEA El Paso schools.

Your Race Details

• Date: Saturday, March 7, 2026
• Location: Ascarate Park
• Parking: Free, on-site.
• Races:
  • The 5K Race: Competitive and starts at 8:15 am.
  • The 1M Walk: Non-competitive and starts at 8:25 am.
• Awards:
  • Finisher Medal: Every registered runner in the 1 Mile & 5K receives a Finisher Medal.
  • 5K Trophies: 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place for Male and Female in 4 age categories.
  • Age Categories: 12 & Under, 13-18, 18-50, 50+
• Top Campus Participation: IDEA campus with the most runners on race day will win a TRAVELING TROPHY that will live at their IDEA campus until the next year's race! Who will take it home? Race is rain or shine. No refunds allowed.
