When Gerard was just five years old, his world was turned upside down by a diagnosis of osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer. After months of grueling treatments and surgery that resulted in the loss of part of his left leg, Gerard showed resilience beyond his years. He returned to the life he loved — playing rugby, swimming, and hiking, proving nothing could hold him back.
Now, at only seven, Gerard faces an even greater challenge. He has been diagnosed with therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML), a rare and aggressive leukemia caused by the very treatments that once saved him. His fight will involve intensive chemotherapy, prolonged hospital stays, and possibly a bone marrow transplant.
Even with insurance, the costs are overwhelming — uncovered medical bills, constant hospital travel, and lost wages while caring for Gerard full-time.
This 5K is more than a race — it’s a way to rally around Gerard and his family. By walking, running, or cheering from afar, you are helping ease the financial burden and showing this brave boy and his loved ones that they are not alone.
Through everything, Gerard remains adventurous, loving, and determined. His courage inspires everyone who meets him. With your help, he has another chance at the life he deserves.
Together, let’s run for Gerard.
