Do you know why we call this the “Be the Buffalo” Race and why we are so passionate about continuing it each year?
About Digits and Needle
- Legacy: Dianne Sullivan Wells (FiA name: Digits) was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and a well-known runner in Lexington.
- Running Wild: She started the run group Running Wild that still meets to this day.
- Tragic Loss: Digits was tragically taken from us during one of our early morning runs in December 2018.
- Facing Storms: The buffalo symbolizes facing storms together: it represents community support in tough times.
Honoring Their Memory
- Second Loss: A year and a half later we lost another beloved runner, Edith Edy Pearson (FiA name: Needle), during a battle with breast cancer.
- Memorial Run: The Be the Buffalo 5K Memorial Run for Digits and Needle was started in their honor.
- Community Impact: This run honors their impact on our community and love for running.
- Legacy Continuation: Proceeds support a charity close to the heart of their families.

- Date: Join us on February 6, 2027.
- Location: Lexington County Baseball Complex, Lexington, SC.
- Participation: Runners, walkers, and donations are all welcome.
- Community Engagement: The community shows up and faces the storm together.

- Deadline: The deadline for sponsorship is January 7, 2026.
- Charity Choices: Proceeds will be donated to a selected charity decided by the families of Digits and Needle.
The proceeds for the 2026 race will go to the family of Kathy Young, a secretary at Rocky Creek Elementary School, whose life was taken too soon earlier this year.
