Beneficiary Information

Crisis Assistance Ministry will be our 2026 race beneficiary. Crisis Assistance Ministry serves as a vital lifeline for Mecklenburg County families in financial crisis, providing the essential support and advocacy they need to regain self-sufficiency.

Proceeds from the 2026 Strides for Shelter event will directly fund a major transformation of their Free Store. This initiative will modernize the shopping environment—improving organization, layout, and flow—to ensure that families can access clothing, shoes, and household essentials with dignity and ease. By reducing congestion and creating a more welcoming, customer-centered space, these upgrades will provide a more supportive experience for our neighbors during their most challenging moments.

Strides for Shelter 5K

Since the inception of the Strides for Shelter 5K in 2016, the Canopy Housing Foundation has returned more than $242,000 from the race proceeds to several worthy local beneficiaries who are all working to address the needs of the homeless.

As the sponsoring organization, the Canopy Housing Foundation is the charitable arm of the Canopy Realtor® Association. The Foundation works to create a community where all housing needs are met through advocacy, education, funding, and leadership.

Steve Maney returns as Strides for Shelter 5K Grand Marshal

Steve Maney is a Charlotte radio host who has entertained listeners since 1998, working alongside industry icons like Howard Stern and Elvis Duran before joining Beasley Media Group. After years of waking up Charlotte on Kiss 95.1, Maney & LauRen are bringing the fun to their new home on K104.7, delivering the high energy, wit, and storytelling that earned them multiple "Best Morning Show" titles and the 2026 NCAB "Radio Team of the Year" award. Off the air, Maney is a devoted husband and father who spends his time coaching softball, cheering at his son's baseball games, and enjoying cars, food, and the outdoors.
