The 2026 5K and One Block Walk through the streets of the historic district will support Tampa General Hospital’s Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer program. Earlier this year, Richard Gonzmart, 4th Generation Caretaker of Tampa’s 1905 Family Of Restaurants (and the event’s originator), made a $1 million gift for the TGH program along with his wife, Melanie.
The Richard & Melanie Gonzmart Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program at the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute provides comprehensive, specialized cancer care for patients aged 15–39. As one of Florida’s leading academic health systems, we ensure every young person has access to world-class care, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
Cancer in adolescence and young adulthood creates challenges that are distinct from those faced by pediatric or older adult patients. Our program is designed to bridge these gaps with seamless transitions, specialized services, innovative treatments and supportive resources tailored to the medical, emotional, social and financial needs of young adults.
In 2003, Gonzmart founded Richard’s Run For Life through the Gonzmart Family Foundation to fund cancer research at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. “So many of our lives, especially our youths' lives, have been touched by cancer,” Richard said. “My passion is to find a cure.” The signature run paused in 2024 to give the hardworking team a well-earned breather — but the commitment to curing cancer never wavered.
In 2025, Richard’s Run instead switched to creating a race team in support of Miles For Moffitt. Participation was in addition to the Gonzmart Family Foundation supporting Moffitt through the 1905 Family’s annual Community Harvest fundraiser.
Returning the evening race to Ybor City in 2026 means that brands of the 1905 Family Of Restaurants also will return to help participants party in Centennial Park on Nov. 6 by serving their respective food and beverages. That includes beer, wine and delicious offerings from Columbia Restaurant, Ulele and Casa Santo Stefano.
