The course begins at the pavilion located at the Empire public beach on the shore of Lake Michigan.
- Starting Point: Pavilion at Empire public beach
- Initial Route: Proceed straight onto Lake Street
- Climb: Ascend the grueling Wilco Road to the trailhead of the Empire Bluff Trail
- Return: Make a U-turn and enjoy the downhill return through the quaint neighborhoods of Empire
