Because of the Brave 5K

Event Description

• Honor: This event honors the brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
• Freedom: Join us on Memorial Day to reflect on the sacrifices made by our heroes.
• Flag Carrying: Each participant will carry a 2'x3' American flag during the 5K course.
• No Timing: This is not a timed race, allowing participants to run or walk at their own pace.

Course Description

• Scenic Route: The course winds through the beautiful grounds of American Village.
• Loop Structure: Participants will complete a 1.55-mile loop twice to finish the 5K distance.
• Paved Surfaces: The entire course is on paved surfaces, allowing strollers and wheelchairs.
• Flag Marking: The course will be clearly marked with American flags.

Time and Location

• Date and Time: Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 2027, at 7:00 AM.
• Venue: Because of the Brave 5K will be held at American Village in Montevallo, Alabama.
• Address: 3727 Highway 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.

Check-In

• Race Day Check-In: No early participant check-in: check-in will be from 5:30 AM to 6:30 AM.
• Pre-Run Briefing: A pre-run briefing will take place at 6:40 AM.
• Flag Distribution: Runners will receive a 2' x 3' American flag at check-in.
• Honoring Heroes: Participants can write the names of heroes they are running for on provided flags.

Swag

• Challenge Coin: All participants will receive a custom Because of the Brave 5K challenge coin at the finish line.
• Flag Exchange: Runners/walkers will exchange the American flag for the challenge coin.
• Community Tradition: The event honors military tradition by offering challenge coins.
• No Awards: This event honors sacrifices rather than competing for awards.

Aid Station

• Hydration Points: One water station will be available at the start/finish line area.
• Light Snacks: A light snack will be provided at the finish line.

Refunds

• No Refunds: No refunds will be given for this competition.
• Transfer Options: Participants can find someone to take their spot or defer their entry to next year.

Donations

• Entry Fee Contributions: A portion of entry fees will be donated to American Village and the Support Committee for the Alabama National Cemetery.
• Additional Donations: Participants can donate any amount to either or both organizations.
