Jeff Scuffins Memorial 5k Fun Run and Relay

🏃‍♂️ Event Overview

This year (2025) marks the third year of this event, which honors local legend Jeff Scuffins. Additionally, it will be the first year that we are adding a four-person relay to the race schedule.

👟 About Jeff Scuffins

• Track Star: Jeff Scuffins (Scuff) was a well-established track and cross-country standout who graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1980.
• State Champion: He was a Maryland state track champion and still holds school records for the 1,600 meters (4:18.94) and 3,200 meters (9:25).
• Junior College Success: While attending Hagerstown Junior College, now known as Hagerstown Community College (HJC/HCC), Jeff earned two Junior College National Championship titles.
• Hall of Fame Inductee: He was inducted into the HJC Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.

🏅 Clemson University and Beyond

• All-Conference Performer: Jeff later competed for Clemson University, where he graduated in 1985 as an All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer in cross-country and the 10,000 meters on the track.
• Marine Corps Marathon: His most notable performance being his record-setting win at the 1987 Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C.
• Course Record: His course-record time of 2:14:01 still stands.

• Location: 211 Prospect Ave, Hagerstown, MD
• Course: Participants will race on a certified 5K (3.1-mile) loop, requiring them to complete two laps.
• Start/Finish: Starting and finishing near Oswald Park.
