Originally Named: “The Wild Irish Run” was called the Lake Guntersville 10,000 hosted by the Lake Guntersville Track Club in 1979.
Sanctioned: This course became sanctioned in 1980 by the Road Runners Club of America and added .2 miles to become an official 10K course.
Saint Patrick’s Day: In 1984, the race was held on Saint Patrick’s Day and subtitled “1984 Saint Patrick’s Wild Irish Run.”
Reputation: One of the oldest 10K races in Alabama and an Alabama Top Ten Event in past years.
🏞️ Course Details
10K Course: An all-paved fast course with small rolling hills through downtown Guntersville and scenic Lake Guntersville (USATF certified course # AL12015JD).
5K Course: Implemented in the last 10 years, certified all-paved surface that takes you through a scenic trail along Lake Guntersville (USATF certified course # AL19009JE).
Host: Now hosted by the City of Guntersville Recreation Department held on or closest Saturday before Saint Patrick’s Day.
Start Times: 10K at 7:00 a.m. sharp and 5K at/around 7:05 a.m.
🏆 Awards and Packet Information
Trophies: Top three overall female and male finishers will win the Wild Irish Run trophy and medal.
Age Division Medals: Awarded to the top three female and male finishers.
Race Packet: T-shirts and other goodies provided in your race packet.
Packet Pick-Up: At the recreation center on March 13, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and on race day from 5:00 a.m. – 6:30 a.m.
