Hello everybody.

💔 About the Race

I am Gabriel and I am proud and happy to introduce to you my very first 5 K run/ walk. This race was inspired by the struggles that my mother faced with a horrific disease called diabetes. My mother was an amazing woman who had taken care of herself and her health the best way that she could while she was living with this disease. However, sadly she died last year in August of 2024 due to diabetic complications. This was very traumatic for our family.

💡 Why This Matters

• Personal Experience: I’ve personally seen how hard it was for my mother to be able to afford her diabetic medicine when she really needed it.
• Financial Struggles: Having to pay for medicine while paying bills and taking care of other household necessities can be a lot for anyone.
• Out-of-Pocket Costs: Unfortunately, whatever insurance won’t pay, most have to pay the remaining balance out of pocket.
• Awareness: When I think about what she went through with this disease, it makes me want to be a voice and lend encouragement to those who don’t understand that health is really wealth.
