Dulles 5K/10K on the Runway

Event Overview

This is your opportunity for the flattest, fastest course in the area! The runway will be closed off for runners to experience a unique look at the airport grounds, something you do not get to do every day! Run past planes and along the actual landing strip on this certified looped course.

Race Date and Start Times

• Date: Saturday, August 29, 2026
• 5K Start Time: 7:30 a.m.
• 10K Start Time: 7:40 a.m.
• 10K Course: Runs the entire length of the runway.

Parking Information

• Location: Free parking at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
• Parking Lot Opening: Opens at 5:30 a.m.
• Parking Lot Closing: Closes promptly at 8:00 a.m.
• Note: Allow time to park, pass through security, and walk through the museum.

Course Completion

• Deadline: All participants must be off the runway by 9:00 a.m.
• Final Half-Mile: Will be off the airstrip, allowing extra time for completion.
• Previous Finishes: No runners have failed to finish the course yet.
• Water Stations: Provided along the course, but carrying personal water is encouraged.

Registration Fees

• 5K Fee: $40 per participant through May 31: $45 through July 31: $50 until sold out or race starts.
• 10K Fee: $50 per participant through May 31: $55 through July 31: $60 until sold out or race starts.
• Registration: Must be completed online in advance of packet pick-up.
• Strollers & Wheelchairs: Permitted if they can complete the course by 9 a.m.

Benefiting Organizations

Race proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Virginia, the Committee for Dulles Community Outreach, and the Washington Airports Task Force, all 501c3 nonprofit organizations closely affiliated with Dulles Airport.

Swag and Awards

• Participant T-Shirts: Guaranteed for registrants before August 1, 2026.
• Finisher's Medal: All finishers will receive a one-of-a-kind medal.
• Top Awards: Certificates for top male and female in both races from United Airlines.
• Age Group Awards: For top male and female in age groups including 12 & under to 71 & over.

Bag Drop Information

A bag drop will be available near the starting line. Please use the bag given out during packet pick up for the bag drop. Race numbers will be written on the bags left at the drop.

Spectator Information

Because this event will take place on the runway, only registered runners (with/without strollers) will be allowed through the final checkpoint. Spectators are welcome to cheer along the finish line.

• Race Photos: Free high-resolution photos will be available for download.
• Post-Race Refreshments: Provided by the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott.
