Due to ongoing thunderstorms and saturated trail conditions, we’ve made the difficult decision to move the Run for Clean Water, Solstice Trail Run to a virtual format.
This marks the second year in a row that extreme weather has disrupted our event—last year it was record-breaking heat, and this year, relentless rain and the threat of predicted thunderstorms. These disruptions serve as a stark and ironic reminder of how climate change is affecting even our most cherished local traditions and natural spaces. At The Watershed Institute, we are committed to protecting New Jersey from the growing impacts of climate change, including excessive heat, dangerous storms, and increasingly severe flooding.
Over the past few weeks, our trails have taken a beating from near-constant rain, leaving them muddy, unstable, and unsafe for a group run. Waterlogged soil makes trees susceptible to being toppled in high winds, and downed trees have already made some of our trails impassable. While we are deeply disappointed, our priority remains the safety of our runners.
Here’s how the virtual run will work:
We want to thank you for your continued support and donations. Your generosity fuels the conservation, advocacy, stewardship, and education work that’s more urgent than ever in the face of a changing climate. We may not be together at the Watershed Reserve this year—but we’re still running for clean water!
Stay safe, stay inspired, The Watershed Team
Thank you to all our generous sponsors who supported this Run for Clean Water!
We all need clean water. The Solstice Trail Run raises essential funds for The Watershed Institute’s conservation, advocacy, science, and education programs. Our goal is to raise $32,000 to protect our environment.
