Escape From Brushy Mtn. State Pen 5k

Race Overview

Not many can say they have successfully escaped from Brushy Mountain State Pen...can you? After August 29, 2026 you can, and you'll have a medal to prove it! Join us for the inaugural "Escape From Brushy Mnt. State Pen 5k" starting within the prison walls, running around Petros, and finishing with the prison life behind you.

• Location: Historic Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary

Registration and Entry Fee

• Early Bird Pricing: through July 31 - $35
• Regular Pricing: August 1- August 22 - $40
• Last Minute Pricing: August 23- August 29 - $45
• Note: No refunds or bib transfers. This is a co-event with the Historic Brushy Mountain Penitentiary.

Shirts

• Type: Adults shirts will be a unisex cotton blend tee.
• Order Deadline: Shirt order will be placed on July 31.
• Correct Size: Please register by July 30 to ensure your correct shirt size.
• Exchanges: Sizes can be exchanged after the race if supplies are available.

Results

• Availability: Results will be posted on Runsignup after the race.

Grand Prix Points and Team Competition

• Status: The Escape From Brushy Mtn. State Pen 5k will NOT be on the 2026 Team Competition schedule.

Post Race Refreshments

• Offering: Assorted refreshments will be provided post race.

Race Etiquette

• Restrictions: Due to insurance regulations, roller blades, strollers, bicycles, and dogs are not allowed on the course.
• Time Limit: The 5K course closes in 1 hour and 30 minutes.
• Headphones: KTC discourages the use of headphones at events.

Charity Partner

We are excited to be working with MoCo Mutts Rescue Center for our charity partner! You can donate when you register OR you can bring needed items to race day to be entered into a raffle! Needed items are: Contractor trash bags, kitchen trash bags, bleach, laundry detergent, dawn dish soap, Pedigree Puppy Food and baby wipes.
