Rocket City Kids Marathon

Welcome to the Rocket City Kids Marathon

Kids can be part of the Rocket City Marathon excitement by participating in the Rocket City Kids Marathon, a non-competitive event for children in grades K - 8! The Rocket City Kids Marathon is an "add-on" program where Kids become marathon finishers on Rocket City Marathon Weekend by completing the final mile of their cumulative marathon training program at the Rocket City Marathon's 1 Mile Family Run/Walk!

Program Overview

• Duration: A 14-week running program that encourages kids to complete a full marathon (26.2 miles).
• Weekly Mileage: Kids run approximately 1.75 miles per week leading up to the final mile.
• Final Mile: Completed in front of cheering fans at the Official Finish Line of the Rocket City Marathon.
• Location: Inside the South Hall of the Von Braun Center!

Goals and Encouragement

The goal of the Rocket City Kids Marathon is to Inspire and Encourage children to be active on a regular basis through running and physical activity.

Training and Tracking

• Training: Participants must run a total of 25.2 miles in increments of their choice.
• Support: Coaches, PE teachers, and parents are encouraged to help children track their miles.
• Mileage Log: Available on the Kids Marathon RunSignUp main page.
• Mileage Boosters: Held monthly in September, October, and November to encourage increased mileage.

Participation and Awards

• Eligibility: Open to all students in grades K - 8.
• Official Merchandise: All participants will receive an Official Race T-shirt.
• Finishing Medal: Finishers of the 1 Mile Family Run/Walk will receive a medal.
• Family Involvement: Family members and friends can sign up to run or walk the mile with their child, or participate independently.
