THE 5th ANNUAL 9/11 MEMORIAL 5K

Significance

• 25th Anniversary: This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation and our community.
• Community Remembrance: We are reminded of the importance of ensuring that we Never Forget the lives lost, the sacrifices made, and the courage displayed.
• Local Impact: This fundraising event honors the 37 Middletown residents who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
• Scholarship Fund: The Middletown PBA Local 124 establishes a memorial scholarship in honor of retired Deputy Chief Joseph Capriotti.

Honoring Deputy Chief Joseph Capriotti

• Career: Deputy Chief Capriotti served the Middletown Township Police Department from July 15, 1982, until his retirement on August 1, 2010.
• 911 Response: He played a critical role in the response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and personally notified families of their losses.
• Legacy: His response to Ground Zero resulted in health challenges, leading to his passing in June 2019.
• Continuing His Work: The scholarship fund aims to carry on his legacy of service and sacrifice.

Community Participation

• First Responders: We hope to have the largest showing of first responders in years, inviting all who serve to join us.
• Visible Tribute: Participants will run in formation as a tribute to those lost and those who answered the call.
• Unity and Commitment: Our gathering will demonstrate the unity and commitment to service of the first responder community.
• Event Location: The race will be held at Middletown Train Station, 22 Church Street, Middletown, NJ.

Race Details

• Course: The 5K course will be USATF-certified and managed by Shore Athletic Club.
• Map: A course map will be made available soon.
• Race Features: Official chip timing, live results, and water stations will be provided.
• Awards: Overall and age-group awards in five-year increments and an awards ceremony will follow the kids’ run.

Registration Information

• Bib Pick Up: Friday, September 11, 2026, from 3:30 - 5:30 PM at Middletown Train Station.
• Fees: 5K Run & Walk: $25 until July 1st, $30 until September 10th, $40 on September 11th and 12th.
• Kids' Run: $10 until July 1st, $15 until September 10th, $20 on September 11th and 12th.
• Event Schedule: Registration at 7:00 AM, 5K race begins at 8:30 AM, Kids run at 9:45 AM, Awards at 10:00 AM.

Sponsorship Information

• Requirements: All sponsors must fill out the Sponsorship Form.
• Levels: Various sponsorship levels are available, ranging from $100 to $1,000, with different benefits.
• Setup: Vendors can arrive at 6:30 AM on race day to set up. No items should be sold, only promotional giveaways.
• Donations: If you wish to just make a donation, make checks payable to Middletown PBA 124 and mail them to P.O Box 222 Middletown, NJ 07748.
