EVENT OVERVIEW
Join us for the 7th Annual Jace’s Journey 5K & Fun Run, a powerful community event dedicated to breaking the silence around stillbirth, pregnancy loss, and maternal health disparities. This annual event brings together families, advocates, healthcare professionals, runners, walkers, and supporters to honor babies gone too soon while raising awareness and support for stillbirth prevention and bereavement care.
MISSION AND IMPACT
Founded in memory of Jace Alexander, Jace’s Journey works to eliminate disparities in maternal and infant health through education, advocacy, direct family support, and community engagement. The 5K & Fun Run is more than a race — it is a movement to ensure more mothers and babies survive and thrive.
STATISTICS AND SIGNIFICANCE
Stillbirth remains a critical public health issue in both North Carolina and across the United States. According to the CDC:
- Prevalence: Approximately 1 in 175 pregnancies in the U.S. ends in stillbirth.
- Impact: Nearly 21,000 families are affected each year.
- Disparities: Black families experience disproportionately higher rates of stillbirth and maternal health complications.
COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
North Carolina continues to face significant maternal and infant health disparities, particularly among Black women and families. Key areas of focus include:
- Education: Community education about health disparities.
- Intervention: Early intervention and awareness of warning signs.
- Access: Ensuring equitable healthcare access.
- Outcomes: Improving outcomes for mothers and infants.
WAYS TO PARTICIPATE
Participants can run, walk, volunteer, sponsor, or simply stand in solidarity with families impacted by pregnancy and infant loss. Funds raised support programs including:
- Bereavement Support: Initiatives for grieving families.
- Community Education: Programs aimed at raising awareness.
- Advocacy: Efforts to promote stillbirth prevention.
- Jace's Embrace Boxes: Support for grieving families.
