THE PLUTONIUM MAN TRIATHLON

The Plutonium Man Triathlon takes place on August 29, 2026 at 2710 Crimson Way, Richland, WA. For more information, visit the race page.

TWO DISTANCES TO CHOOSE FROM

• Options: Olympic distance, sprint distance, or relay teams for the Olympic distance event.

RACE FORMAT

• Olympic Distance: 1.3 km swim: 40 km bike: 10 km run.
• Sprint Distance: 1.3 km swim: 20 km bike: 5 km run.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

• Swimming: Enter the Columbia River and swim 1.3 km downstream with the current to exit just upstream of Sprout Road.
• Transition Area: Located at the SE corner of the WSU Tri-Cities campus grounds.
• Cycling: Cyclists head west on Sprout Road and follow the course maps, with Olympic distance athletes doing 2 loops.
• Running: Two loops for Olympic distance, one loop for sprint, taking runners upstream along the footpath.

FEES

• Race Fee: $55 by June 30, 2026, $70 after that (discount for 3RRR members).
• USAT License: Additional cost if not a USAT member.
• 3RRR Discount: Available for registration by August 18, 2025.

ATHLETE LIMIT

• Limit: 400 individuals and 25 teams.
• Registration: Online ONLY: no mail-in or race day registration.

CLOTHING OPTION

A pair of DeSoto Carrera Tri Shorts is available for $48. Sizes range from women's XS to XL and men's XS to XL. Refer to the size chart here.

AWARDS

• Top 3: Overall men and women for both distances.
• Age Groups: Top 3 in each 5-year age group.
• Relay Awards: Top two teams in each of the 3 relay divisions.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES

• Pre-registration: By June 30, 2026, late fee applies after this date.
• Online Registration: Available until August 24, 2026, or until full.

REFUND POLICY

Absolutely no refunds will be issued. Entries are non-transferable.

CHIP TIMING

Timing chips will be used to record times. Collected on race morning at check-in, return chips at finish line to avoid charges.

RACE SCHEDULE

• Day Before: Packet pickup from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at Atomic Ale Brewpub.
• Race Day:
  • 7:00 am – Packet/timing chip pickup starts.
  • 8:30 am – Mandatory pre-race meeting.
  • 9:00 am – Race start.
  • 12:30 pm – Course closes.

SWAG

Each triathlete receives a Plutonium Man runner's hat and all finishers will get a finisher medal.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

• Race Day Registration: Not available.

CUT-OFF TIMES

For safety, the bike leg must be completed within 2 hours and 30 minutes.
