34th Annual Dr. John A. Stephenson Memorial Youth Run

Event Overview

Join area youth runners of all ages for the 34th Annual Dr. John A. Stephenson Memorial Youth Run presented by the Lynchburg Road Runners. Dr. Stephenson was one of the founding pediatricians of Richeson Drive Pediatrics. Now Lynchburg Pediatrics. He promoted healthy children and being active outside. When he died at a young age a memorial race was started to honor his passion for promoting healthy lifestyles.

Age Group Details

• 1-Miler: Divided based on age and gender groups to ensure fair competition with four waves:
  • Female 8–9
  • Male 8–9
  • Male and Female 10–11
  • Male 12–13
• Entry Limit: 50 participants per gender per age group.
• Race Distances:
  • 3 & under: 1/8th mile
  • 4-5 yrs old: 1/4 mile
  • 6-7 yrs old: 1/2 mile
  • 8-13 yrs old: 1 mile
• Courses: Gently rolling courses (closed to traffic) winding through historic Riverside Park.

Shirts and Discounts

• T-Shirts: Available for an additional charge of $10.00 to those registered by Monday, September 20, 2026. After this date, shirts will not be available to order.
• Lynchburg Road Runners Club Member Discount: A $1.00 discount is available to current members. Discounts will not be given after Monday, September 30th.
• Refund Policy: Refunds and discounts will not be given after completing online race registration.

Awards & Recognition

• All Finishers: Receive a "FINISHER Cookie."
• Top Awards: Top 3 overall boys and girls for the 1 mile distance will receive a special carved trophy by Jeff Harrington.
• Age Group Awards: The top 3 boys and girls in each race will receive a hand carved trophy as they cross the finish line.

Additional Information

• Parking: Riverside Park, closed to ALL vehicular traffic. Please park on Rivermont Ave.
• Prohibition: Strollers & pets are prohibited.
• Registration: Non-refundable & non-transferable.
