NIDS Oral Cancer Awareness 5K Run/2K Walk

EVENT DETAILS

• Race Location: Lake County Fair Grounds, Crown Point, IN
• Check-in & Packet Pick Up: Starts at 7:00 AM
• Race Starts: 9:00 AM Runners / 9:10 AM Walkers
• Course: This is a closed course with paved and gravel trails.

WEATHER POLICY

• Race Cancellation: No, the race will be held rain, snow, or shine.
• Late Entry: Any entry after Midnight, September 12th to Race Day.
• Cost for Late Entry/Same Day Sign Ups: $25
• Sign Ups Begin: 7:30 AM

Awards & PROCEEDS

• Awards: Award Medals and a $100 gift card to Gamba Ristorante for top Male and Female finishers overall.
• Age Category Awards: Award Medals for top Male and Female finishers in each age category.
• Proceeds: Benefits Oral Cancer Awareness.
• Results: 5K will be timed with disposable chip timing technology. Full results at this link.

WALK & EVENT FEATURES

• Non-Competitive Walk: The 2K walk will not be timed.
• T-Shirts: Limited shirts available for purchase at $15 each.
• Event Activities: A DJ, prizes, medals, and sponsor giveaways will be present.
• Race Shirt: Attendees will receive a cool race shirt.

ORAL CANCER AWARENESS

• Diagnosis Statistics: Approximately 58,500 people will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer in 2024.
• Daily Cases: 145 new cases diagnosed each day: one person dies every hour from this disease.
• Survival Rate: When caught early, there is an 80–90% survival rate.
• Importance of Awareness: Knowledge about symptoms and risk factors is crucial for early detection.
