• From Asheville, NC: Take I-40 west to exit 27 onto U.S. 19/74. Stay on U.S. 74 west to NC 28 west. Turn right and go 5 miles, look for Tsali Recreation Area sign on right. Go approximately 1.5 miles to end of road.
• Parking: Parking is very limited! Please carpool!

Start Times

• 50K: 8 AM
• 30K: 8:30 AM
• 8K: 9:00 AM
• Note: There are NO early starts.

Cut-offs

• 8K: ALL runners have 7 hours to complete the race
• 30K: ALL runners have 8 hours to complete the race
• 50K: ALL runners have 9.5 hours to complete the race
• Map Cut-offs: Various mapped cutoff times at specific miles noted.

Course Info

• Retracing Steps: If you get off course, you will need to retrace your steps.
• Stream Crossings: The 50K and 30K courses have small stream crossings.
• Disqualification: Course cutting is not permitted and may lead to disqualification.
• Maps: 8K Caltopo Map, 30K Course Map, 50K Course Map

Aid Stations

• Typical Fare: Including PB&J, oranges, gels, snacks, and drinks.
• Staffed Aid Stations: Not all aid stations are staffed: some offer water only.
• Crew Access: Only one crew-accessible aid station for 50K runners.
• Volunteers: Runners’ crew encouraged to volunteer at aid stations.

Drop Bags

• Access: 50K runners will have a drop bag mid-way through the race at a checkpoint.
• Labeling: Clearly label your drop bag with your name and bib number.
• Size: Keep drop bags to the size of a small duffle/shoe box.
• Pickup: Drop bags can be picked up at the finish area after the aid station closes.

Crew/Spectators

• Non-Runners: Are not permitted to utilize aid station support.
• Permitted Areas: Spectators can be at the start, finish areas, and along specific roads.
• Volunteering: Spectators encouraged to volunteer at aid stations.
• Pets: No pets allowed during the event.

• Food: Finishers food provided

Weather

• Average Temps: Mid 20’s at night and mid to high 40’s during the day.
• Conditions: Be prepared for potential rain, snow, or bitter cold.
• Postponement: Race may be postponed to January 30, 2027, if weather conditions are concerning.
• Notification: Decision on rescheduling will be made at least 48 hours prior.
