Carson City Everest Challenge

What hill are we climbing?

• Location: The Carson City Everest Challenge will climb up Kings Canyon via King St from the intersection with Longview to the trailhead parking lot at the end of the paved road.
• Distance: The segment is 1.45 miles long and gains 552 ft of elevation.
• Gradient: The average gradient is 7.2% but there are sections of 12% grades.
• Event Date: The race takes place on 2026-09-26 at 39.162594, -119.793275 NF-039, Carson City, NV 89703.

How long will it take?

• Fast Riders: Very fit riders will take on the order of 10 to 12 hours.
• Recreational Riders: For recreational riders, the event could take quite a bit longer.
• Course Timing: We will have the course open from 3:00AM to 9:00 PM for a total of 18 hours.
• Plan Accordingly: Riders should plan their times based on their fitness levels.

How hard is this challenge?

• Endurance Event: A full Everest Challenge is a serious endurance event that requires a lot of training ahead of time.
• Training Required: You should be able to handle being on the bike for a full day and have a good set of climbing legs.
• Recommended Training: The Tour of the California Alps (The Death Ride) is another local event that would provide excellent training for the Everest Challenge.
• Preparation: Ensure adequate training to tackle the challenge successfully.

Is the road closed to traffic during the event?

• Closure Times: The road will be closed to the general public from 6AM to 6PM.
• Authorized Vehicles: Only vehicles allowed on the road are King St residents, event staff vehicles, and emergency services vehicles.
• Spectator Access: Family members or friends who want to spectate are welcome to ride bikes up to the upper aid station.
• Event Staff Rides: Alternatively, they may arrange for a ride with event staff.

Are there aid stations?

• Location: Yes! There will be a full-service aid station in the trailhead parking lot at the top of King St.
• Water Station: There will also be a water only aid station at the bottom of King St.
• Staffing: Both aid stations will be staffed from 3AM to 11PM and have basic bicycle repair equipment.
• Aid Accessibility: Riders can count on support at these stations throughout the day.

What food will the aid station have?

• Food Variety: The full-service aid station will be stocked all day long with water, carb drinks, energy gels, potato chips, cookies, fruit, PBJ sandwiches, various candies and sodas.
• Catered Lunch: Catered sandwiches will be available for lunch from 12:00 – 2:00.
• Afternoon Treats: Popsicles will be available throughout the afternoon.
• Evening Options: Ramen noodles and hot drinks will be served in the evening.

Are there bathrooms on the course?

• Facilities: Yes, there is a set of bathrooms in the trailhead parking lot.
• Additional Options: We will also have a port-a-potty at the lower aid station.
• Access: Bathroom facilities are conveniently located for rider use.
• Hygiene: Ensure you utilize the facilities as needed during the event.
