The Barley Chase Race Description

The Barley Chase is a USATF Certified 5k/10k race located in Newport, NC. Race day is Sunday, October 18, 2026 at 9:00 am. The race starts and ends at Shortway Brewing Co. and meanders through the heart of Newport.

Participant Perks

• T-Shirt: Participants will receive a t-shirt.
• Finisher Medal: Every runner will receive a finisher medal.
• Post-Run Pints: Enjoy 2 post-run pints at the after party!
• ID Check: All participants are subject to ID check.

Registration Details

• T-Shirt Size: Size is not guaranteed for registrations after 8/31.
• Awards: Awards will be given to overall top 3 males & females and the top 2 in each age division for both males and females.
• Age Divisions: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & above.
• Water Stations: Will be set up at the halfway points of each course.

Packet Pickup

Packet pickup will take place Saturday, October 17th from 12-2 PM at Shortway Brewing Co. or you can pick up the morning of the race starting at 8:00 am at the registration table located behind the brewery on Haskett St.

Online Registration

Online registration will close at 11:59 PM on Friday, October 16th or when the race sells out. Waitlist will open after the race is full and will be on a first come first served basis. If a spot becomes available, first in line will receive an email and have 24 hours to register before it moves to the next in line.

Pricing Information

Early Bird Pricing runs through June 30th, after which prices increase by $5.

Community Benefit

This race is held annually in conjunction with Shortway Brewing Company's anniversary party and will benefit nonprofit 501(c)(3), Bread & Barley. Bread & Barley is a church that runs on volunteers and has no building expenses: therefore, all proceeds will be used to meet needs right here in our local community.
